Heisman Troohy favorite leads Broncos into Friday night’s game
Six of nine meetings between the teams have been decided by fewer than 10 points, including four games by two or three points.
No wonder. The Broncos have played for the conference championship six times in seven years. They have won three titles in that span, including last year’s 44-20 win over UNLV. Boise State lost to UCLA 35-22 in the L.A. Bowl to close out the season, but the Broncos have flourished under Danielson this year.Their average margin of victory has been 23.7 points. Last week’s 29-24 win at UNLV was the only time they’ve been pushed, requiring a fourth-quarter touchdown to pull out the win.Boise State possesses the third-ranked offense in the nation with 44.3 points a game. That’s virtually double SDSU’s scoring average of 22.3 points a game .
One storyline worth watching is SDSU edge Trey White, who leads the nation with 11 1/2 sacks, going after Madsen, who has been sacked only six times all season. The Broncos probably could shave a few points off opponents’ scoring average if they could produce more turnovers. They have only two interceptions and four fumble recoveries in seven games.
