Scottie Scheffler dominated headlines this morning after his chaotic commute to Valhalla Golf Club for the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship.with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. Scheffler was released from jail in time to make his tee time at 10:08 a.m. ET.
Scheffler offered some clarity on the details during his press conference with the media shortly after his round was finished. "Scottie, did you ever say to someone this morning, like, 'I'm Scottie Scheffler?" the reporter asked. "No," Scheffler responded. "When they got me out of the car, like I said, it was very chaotic. I said, 'I'm sorry, I'm just trying to get to my tee time.' It escalated from there. I said numerous apologies. Like I said, it was dark, raining, chaotic. There was a lot of stuff going on. They just had an accident. I didn't know what happened at the time, other than there was an accident I didn't know it was fatal. My heart goes out to the family.
"But no, at no point did I try to namedrop myself to try and diffuse the situation. I just tried to remain as calm as possible and just try to follow instructions."Scheffler, who arrived to the course less than an hour before he teed off on the 1st hole, shot a five-under 66 on Friday. He sits at nine-under heading into the final two rounds of the PGA Championship.
