Scott Dixon and Helio Castroneves turned the fastest laps on Carb Day during final practice for the Indianapolis 500 on Friday. The two are starting way back in the seventh row, so that speed will certainly come in handy on Sunday.

Scott Dixon , of New Zealand, drives into the second turn during the final practice for the Indianapolis 500 auto race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Friday, May 24, 2024. Will Power , of Australia, leads down the main straightaway during the final practice for the Indianapolis 500 auto race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Friday, May 24, 2024.

It’s difficult to guess how speed Friday will translate to Sunday, too, given the expected change in the weather. Carb Day dawned warm and sunny, but the forecast for the race calls for cooler temperatures and a strong chance of storms.Seven-time F1 champion Hamilton faces a tall order to get on the podium at Monaco GP“That was great. It was very, very good. Very strong,” he said. “I’m glad we had this practice and this weather. Hopefully we’ll cross our fingers and the weather will hold on.

“I felt comfortable with all that,” said Larson, who will start in the middle of Row 2. “Felt like we checked a lot of boxes.”
