The Hoops romped to an emphatic opening night victory in the east end of Glasgow against the Slovaks
Scott Brown enjoyed a few ding-dongs with Vladimir Weiss when the Slovak was on loan at Rangers but the Celtic legend was able to take aim at his old rival from the Parkhead gantry as his old club put one over the winger on his return to Glasgow.
Brown was blown away by the display from Brendan Rodgers' side as they got off to a flyer in Uefa's elite competition. John Mjallby, who Brown played under when he was assistant to Neil Lennon who was on co-commentary, joined him in the TNT Sports studio. Here’s how the trio and another former team-mate saw the bludgeoning of Bratislava.
Vladimir Weiss was booked for a wee kick out but that was the right decision - we’ve all ben there and done that. It’s emotional and he wasn’t playing the game, he was getting caught up in the emotion with the crowd and he didn’t keep the ball well. Celtic suffocated him really well and Daizen Maeda’s recovery runs were exceptional. When he lost the ball he got it right back.
Paulo Bernardo came on, Adam Idah came on and gave them a physical presence. Anthony Ralston, a stalwart over the years and another who came through the ranks and a Scotland international, and James Forrest all came on. It was very comfortable. The Champions League brings out the best in players and and it’s about Celtic seeing where this can take them. The players are full of confidence and they were backed up by a buoyant home support.
