French firm TotalEnergies said extra helicopters and boats were being put on to get stranded employees back to the UK

Scots fearing they would be stranded offshore have been told they'll get home to their loved ones for Christmas - after the Daily Record stepped in. Hundreds of workers employed in the North Sea near Denmark were worried they would have to spend the full festive period on the rigs.

A spokesperson for TotalEnergies said: “Helicopter transports during wintertime around the North Sea are always challenging due to ice, fog, wind speeds and other factors. Since the flights have not been able to take place to the required extent, there are approx. 300 people who should have left and are now awaiting transport to shore.

"Extra helicopters have been called in from another helicopter supplier so that we can increase the number of flights when the weather permits. In addition, we have committed three boats at short notice, which can dock close to the platforms and establish a safe footbridge if the wave height is not too great. The first one left Esbjerg harbor the night between Saturday and Sunday, and new boat trips are planned for this week.

Top news stories today TotalEnergies is described as "a multi-energy company that produces and markets fuels, natural gas and electricity... committed to better energy that is more affordable, more reliable, cleaner and accessible to as many people as possible". The company, which has 100,000 employees, is responsible for the Tyra Redevelopment, which processes 90% of the natural gas produced by Denmark and is the largest oil and gas project in the Danish North Sea.
