Paul Fleming, right hand man of James White (pictured), admitted running a major cocaine importation and distribution racket using a fake solar panels company.

A gangster known as "The Captain" was jailed for nine years today for his role in Scotland's biggest drugs, guns and dirty cash cartel.

But two intelligence-led Police Scotland operations, Operation Fertile and Operation Buggy, revealed the full extent of Fleming’s involvement. The court heard Fleming left Scotland for Spain with his family in October 2018 after he and his wife were arrested. Imposing the jail term on Fleming - who appeared for sentence by video link at the High Court in Stiring - judge Lord Colbeck told him he had committed "an offence of the utmost seriousness".

He added that he took into account that Fleming had required to be extradited from Spain - where he had moved with his family in 2019 - and then delayed his extradition by claiming asylum. His application was rejected by the Spanish courts. Married Fleming, a father of four, appeared for sentence after pleading guilty last month to directing five gang members involved in the plot between December 29, 2017, and January 7, 2022.
