Organisers of Strathaven Balloon Festival made the difficult decision to axe their 25th-anniversary festival.

A popular Scottish festival has been cancelled this weekend as Hurricane Ernesto continues to batter the country.

However last night organisers announced the devastating news that their annual event has been scrapped over safety concerns for visitors. The Forecast for this weekend is heavy rain and winds, which organisers claims are too strong for safe flying or tethering. "We look forward to next year in the hope of better weather and we can assure you that this decision has not been taken lightly. We will celebrate the 25th anniversary next year in style. As we said the safety of everyone involved in our unique festival is our absolute priority."Lianne McHugh wrote: "So sorry to read this and you’ve all put in so much amazing work to make it happen. Everyone’s safety is most important, and it’s a very good call from you all.
