Taxi driver George ‘Dod’ Murdoch was violently attacked with the makeshift weapon after telling his control room he was going to pick up a fare in Culter, Aberdeen.
The killer behind the infamous cheese wire murder may have been inspired by The Godfather film, it has been claimed.
There was no apparent motive behind the brutal attack and, almost 40 years on from the harrowing murder, not a single arrest has been made. The family have never given up hope of finding the killer and a post on the 'Appeal for Information Aberdeen Taxi Driver Murder 1983' Facebook page read: "In Sept 1983, prior to George's murder, the film, The Godfather, had been shown on TV. In one of the scenes, it shows someone being strangled with a piano wire.
"Maybe charming one minute, dangerous the next? Did you know anyone like that around that time in 1983? You may be too young to have known about this murder then, but your parents/grandparents might hold information? They could help us? Please share /ask them."
