There were 38,592 different delay repayments in the first nine months of the 2022/23 financial year

ScotRail paid out nearly £650,000 in delay repayments in the first nine months after it was brought into public ownership.

The party's transport spokesperson Jill Reilly said: “Ministers are now directly responsible for the trains, but they seem to have lost all sense of direction. “If we are to tempt people out of private cars, they need a reliable and frequent rail service. For the good of the planet, the Government needs to ensure that all services are up and running and trains are arriving on time.

Humza Yousaf took away the title of Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport and replaced it with the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Just Transition. ScotRail Head of Customer Operations Phil Campbell said: “We know how much of an inconvenience it is to customers when things don’t go to plan, so it’s only right that they are compensated when that happens. Our Delay Repay Guarantee is at heart of that approach.
