Scotland go into Friday's clash against Cyprus on the brink of securing Euro 2024 qualification
Wins over Cyprus and Georgia at home, whilst expected, weren’t the games that would decide whether they would take Scotland to the Euros. As has always been the case for the Tartan Army, failures against sides of similar or better ability always see them end up on the losing side - and dreams have faded away throughout the years.
Of course, that first step is beating Cyprus on Friday. Steve Clarke’s side have already done so this season, and whilst they face an away tie on the island, a win would put them on 15 points - miles ahead of Georgia and Norway, who both have just four points, and Spain on three - though the Tartan Army have played two games more than the Iberian giants.
Even if Norway win in Oslo, it means that Scotland would likely need just one point from their remaining three games, given their superior goal difference over Erling Haaland and co.
