Scoot Henderson, the No. 15 pick in last year's draft, has become the betting favorite to win Rookie of the Year. His recent strong performance, including three straight 20-point games and consecutive double-doubles, has propelled him ahead of other rookies in the race. This comes as the Miami Heat, Henderson's team, face internal turmoil due to Jimmy Butler's trade request and subsequent suspension.
Scoot Henderson has surprisingly emerged as a frontrunner in the race for Rookie of the Year. The No. 15 overall pick from last June is now the betting favorite at several sportsbooks. As of Friday morning, FanDuel Sportsbook has Henderson with +200 odds (bet $100 to win $200), ahead of Spurs guard Stephon Castle (+310) and Wizards big man Alexandre Sarr (+330). DraftKings offers similar odds, placing Henderson at +140, significantly ahead of Sarr (+350) and Castle (+370).
While Hard Rock Bet lists Henderson with +140 odds to win Rookie of the Year, he still trails Grizzlies center Zach Edey (+100). Interestingly, FanDuel lists Edey at +2000 as of Friday. Henderson has showcased an impressive run with three consecutive 20-point games and two back-to-back double-doubles. He contributed 22 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in Thursday’s loss to the Bucks.Henderson is averaging 8.3 points and 4.6 rebounds. He has started the Heat’s last two games, forming a formidable double-big frontcourt with Bam Adebayo. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra finds himself in a precarious situation amidst the Jimmy Butler trade drama. Butler has expressed his desire to leave the team, and the Heat have suspended him twice this month. The Heat are experiencing a slump, losing six of their last ten games and dropping to 21-22. Rivers, whose Bucks defeated the Heat 125-96 on Thursday night, commented on the situation, saying, “I feel terrible for Spo. I mean, there’s no winning for Spo in this. It’s just hard. He’s got to try to get his team focused.” The situation is further complicated by the internal dynamics within the Heat, as Rivers noted, “It’s not fun really for the players because their brother is the player, and so they don’t want to have to take sides. They don’t want to get involved, and anything they say will be construed one way or the other.
