A new generation's Mystery Gang.

The main cast of Scooby-Doo: Origins has finally been confirmed, and it makes the upcoming adaptation all the more exciting. Since the beloved franchise launched in 1969, the central Mystery Gang— comprised of Norville"Shaggy" Rogers, Velma Dinkley, Daphne Blake, Fred Jones, and a talking Great Dane named Scooby-Doo— has remained a timeless ensemble of iconic characters.

Given that each generation has earned its own television series, films, comic books, video games, and more, however, the IP is constantly being reworked— for better and for worse. Nevertheless, Netflix's upcoming Scooby-Doo series already feels like a promising, albeit risky, modern retelling. Aside from being the first live-action TV title in Scooby-Doo history, the adaptation will focus on a massively underdeveloped aspect of the IP— the titular"origins" of the Mystery Gang.

Very few series and films have attempted to explore the humble beginnings of the group , but Scooby-Doo: Origins will be constructing its own lore from the ground up. From being set at a summer camp to reportedly jumping headfirst into a murder mystery, the Netflix original will be a major gamble. Thankfully, the live-action Scooby-Doo show's cast is a safe bet with talent to spare.

Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake Born: June 25, 2006 Without a doubt, the unofficial star of Scooby-Doo: Origins is Mckenna Grace. At only 19 years old, the actress is already considered a generational talent, with a whopping 84 roles under her belt. The star broke into the industry portraying younger versions of characters in film and television, from Caroline Forbes in The Vampire Diaries to Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, but her immense talent was instantly undeniable.

Throughout the 2020s, Grace has transitioned to leading roles in major motion pictures, joining ubiquitous franchises like The Hunger Games, Scream, and Five Nights at Freddy's. Mckenna Grace previously voiced a young Daphne Blake in Scoob! . Mckenna Grace's Daphne casting felt fated, though it's unclear exactly how Scooby-Doo: Origins will craft her character.

In the franchise thus far, Daphne's core traits have simply been her love of fashion, her impulsivity, and her complex romantic relationship with Fred, but the Netflix drama will surely add more depth to her role both as an individual and as a member of the investigative team. Already, Scooby-Doo: Origins has established one meaningful modification, as Grace's iteration of Daphne will purportedly be Shaggy's childhood friend.

Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers Born: January 24, 2005 In stark contrast, Tanner Hagen is making his mainstream television acting debut with Scooby-Doo: Origins. The young actor has been active for nearly a decade, but the vast majority of his early career has consisted of one-off appearances on television shows like The Pitt, a wide array of short films, and a recurring spot on an infamous short-form content channel called Dhar Mann.

Thankfully, Scooby-Doo: Origins seems like the perfect breakthrough role for Hagen. Beyond being Daphne's longtime friend, Scooby-Doo: Origins will likely draw on Shaggy's established lore. Of course, the character is renowned for his voracious appetite, abundant use of the word"like," and kinship with the eponymous dog, but the franchise has also added intriguing details to explain his biggest quirks.

For example, Shaggy has a surprisingly successful athletic streak as a gymnast and track & field athlete, while his constant snacking is supplemental to his vegetarian diet. While these fun facts are a solid starting point, Scooby-Doo: Origins will hopefully dig much deeper into the character's adolescence. Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley Born: March 14, 2008 Abby Ryder Fortson has been acting since she was five, but Scooby-Doo: Origins could take her career to some well-earned new heights.

The actress already has numerous impressive projects on her resume, from playing the title character in Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. to originating the role of Cassie Lang in the MCU's first two Ant-Man movies. While she carried one of the most underrated comedy films of the decade, however, Abby Ryder Fortson deserves more mainstream success.

Posts By Shealyn Scott Luckily, Velma Dinkley seems right up her alley. As arguably the most nuanced member of the Mystery Gang, Velma's character has evolved the most throughout the years.

She's always considered the brains of the group, but different eras presented her intelligence in vastly different ways, be it painting her as an obsessive researcher or having her juxtapose the supernatural hijinks as the resident skeptic. Scooby-Doo: Origins has described its Velma as a"scientific" and"pragmatic" local who will assuredly play a pivotal role in the key investigation. Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones Born: May 3, 2005 Another up-and-coming actor on Scooby-Doo: Origins' roster is Maxwell Jenkins.

The performer got his fascinating start in Chicago's Midnight Circus, but his career has pivoted to focus on TV roles in recent years. Since 2022, Jenkins has portrayed the child version of the eponymous character in Prime Video's hit show Reacher, and the rising star has additionally landed main roles in titles like The Bondsman and Dear Edward. Many may consider Fred Jones to be the Mystery Gang's most basic character, but the Scooby-Doo franchise has proven time and time again that looks may be deceiving. Fred is the team's de facto leader, often spearheading investigations and setting elaborate traps to catch the masked culprits. What most casual viewers probably don't know is that Fred has a background in drama, ambitions of being a writer, and— in certain continuities— was kidnapped as a child.

Regardless, Scooby-Doo: Origins merely describes Fred as the"new kid" in town, leaving his character a practically blank slate. Scooby-Doo: Origins' Ensemble Cast Of Characters A Franchise Staple Returns For Netflix's New Era With the notorious meddling kids set in stone, Scooby-Doo: Origins also has multiple side characters confirmed. Paul Walter Hauser will be Scooby-Doo's owner, though his role is still unnamed.

Similarly, Sara Gilbert has signed on for a yet undisclosed role. Perhaps the most exciting name out of the entire Scooby-Doo: Origins cast is Frank Welker, who will voice Scooby-Doo. Fans of the franchise are deeply familiar with Welker, as the celebrated icon has played Fred Jones and Scooby-Doo for decades, starting with the original 1969 animated series.

Irrefutably, Frank Welker has delivered some of the best voice acting performances of all time, and Scooby-Doo: Origins will guarantee he remains a mainstay of the franchise's modern era.
