The German restaurant is paying homage to its menu offerings over its 130-year history.

San Francisco’s mainstay GermanSchroeder's kicks off its 130th anniversary year with yearlong menu specials and a forthcoming special beer release.

The celebration began this month with beef goulash and egg noodles as the restaurant's first monthly dish. Throughout the rest of the year, Schroeder's plans to offer monthly specials inspired by the restaurant’s past historic menus and classic San Francisco dishes. “We were inspired by looking at old menus and listening to our long-time regulars,” co-owners Andy Chun and Jan Wiginton told SFGATE via email. “Many guests have shared great stories and memories of past meals and great times spent at Schroeder’s and we wanted to honor them."A menu offering available in February is sauerbraten, a centuries-old German dish, which both Chun and Wiginton are excited about.

“It’s a dish that will hopefully bring back some great memories for those who have enjoyed this dish with us in the past,” Chun and Wiginton said. Schroeder's has also collaborated with Richmond-based East Brother Beer Co. to debut a celebratory German pilsner, which will be available during the restaurant’s St. Patrick's Day block party.
