, a Democrat representing Washington’s 8th Congressional District, raised concerns on a range of issues during a recent one-on-one interview, from economic pressures facing constituents to global security and public health.

Schrier, whose district spans parts of King, Pierce, Kittitas, Chelan and Snohomish counties, as well as a portion of Douglas County, said affordability remains a top concern for residents.

“People can’t afford groceries, can’t afford gas. Life is hard,” she said.

“And then they see the Republican request of a billion with a B dollars — one ballroom in the White House. We can’t imagine anything more out of touch. ” She added that the proposal reflects broader priorities among Republicans in Washington, D.C.

“It’s not just the White House now,” Schrier said. “It’s all of my Republican colleagues here in D.C. who are behind this effort. ” On energy costs, Schrier discussed a proposal that would temporarily suspend the federal gas tax, though she emphasized that broader geopolitical factors are driving prices.

“The thing that would bring these gas prices down is the end of the war,” she said, questioning U.S. involvement and calling for clearer justification. Schrier also addressed forest management, though she did not outline specific policy changes, and briefly touched on public health concerns, including the hantavirus. While noting that any virus capable of person-to-person spread is concerning, she said current information suggests hantavirus does not spread easily between people.

“Anytime there is a virus spreading from person to person, it concerns me,” Schrier said, adding that she hopes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has sufficient staffing to monitor the situation. , particularly reports that technology executives accompanied him.

“I am concerned about taking a bunch of tech CEOs to China, when we now possess the most advanced CHIPS in the world,” she said, citing national security implications and the potential for sensitive technology exposure. She also raised broader concerns about data security, including TikTok and China’s interest in user information, though she did not elaborate on specific policy proposals.

Overall, Schrier framed her remarks around economic strain at home and security risks abroad, emphasizing the need for what she described as more grounded policymaking in Washington.
