Paarl Gymnasium sent a message of their strength this season by comfortably beating Affies in their north-south derby, while KES scored a try in overtime to grab a win over Johannesburg rivals Jeppe.
In the 21st clash between the two schools, Paarl Gymnasium flexed their muscle in a 38-21 victory over Affies after leading 24-0 at half time in the Premier Interschools match in Paarl on Saturday.Paarl Gym flyhalf Kyle Smith was outstanding, playing a key role in several tries, while Affies loose forward Ruan Lippold scored two tries as the visitors pushed back in the second half.
Meanwhile, Outeniqua’s 1st XV showed they are a team to be reckoned with in a 36-0 win over Durbanville, who have claimed a few big scalps this season. On the east coast, Michaelhouse and Hilton warmed up for their interschools clash next week with big wins. Michaelhouse were too good for Glenwood in a 36-10 victory, while Hilton beat St Charles 39-10. Maritzburg College were also impressive in a 47-10 win at Pretoria Boys High.Further north, KES wing Ruan van Rensburg scored a try after full time to give his side a 23-20 victory over Jeppe in the big Johannesburg derby.
