If you've been manifesting School Spirits season 4 since the season 3 finale aired, your wishes have been granted. Here's all we know about the next season.
Warning: Spoilers for School Spirits seasons 1–3 ahead. If you've been manifesting School Spirits season 4 ever since the season 3 finale aired on March 4, your wishes have been granted. Not even three weeks after the end of School Spirits season 3, Paramount + confirmed the show will be returning for a fourth season! The show centers on Maddie, played by Peyton List , who also serves as a producer, a senior at Split River High who gets stuck in the afterlife after her mysterious disappearance—and all the hijinks that ensue thereafter.
Season 3 finds Maddie back in her shell, but the mysteries don't stop. School Spirits is produced by Paramount Television Studios, formerly known as Awesomeness TV, which is also behind XO, Kitty. The show was created by Nate and Megan Trinrud and counts Oliver Goldstick—of Pretty Little Liars and Bridgerton fame—as co-showrunner and executive producer. “Co-showrunners Oliver Goldstick, Nate Trinrud, and Megan Trinrud have an exceptional ability to capture the complexity and nuance of the teen experience while also keeping audiences on their toes with the unexpected mystery,' Shauna Phelan, then head of live action scripted series and film for Awesomeness and Nickelodeon, said in a statement before season 3's premiere. The YA drama has aired three eight-episode seasons exploring high school purgatory, going from a murder-solving to a body-swapping mystery, and now revenge sprinkled with romance, friendship, and multiple tests of all kinds. Season 3 left us with more questions than answers, so what's in store for School Spirits season 4? Below, we've gathered it all. Yes! Paramount+ announced that School Spirits season 4 had been given the green light on March 24, 2026, less than three weeks after the season 3 finale aired, mirroring the timeline for the previous season's renewal. News of the show's renewal shouldn't be surprising, as season 3, much like season 3, scored terrific numbers. The show wrapped its third season with a certified fresh 100% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was on Paramount+'s Top 10 shows list as it aired. ↑BACK TO TOP LIST At the time of writing, Paramount+ has yet to announce a release date for School Spirits season 4. That said, given the timeframes are pretty similar to season 3's renewal, we could likely expect a similar release schedule. For reference, School Spirits season 3 was confirmed in March 2025 and premiered in January 2026, so we likely expect an early 2027 return. ↑BACK TO TOP LIST Warning: Spoilers for the season 3 finale. If the previous seasons of School Spirits have taught us something, it is to always expect the unexpected, so we know for sure we're in for a wild ride full of twists and turns. That said, we expect School Spirits season 4 to deal with season 3's cliffhangers and explore some of the mysteries posed in the finale—i.e., Van Heidt now possessing Maddie’s mom, the seal trapping the ghosts at the school disappearing, and how the characters are going to be using the scars now that a third plane is being brought into the equation. In the season 3 finale, Maddie learns that the scar doors don’t lead to the afterlife, but to a third, forest-like plane where spirits wander, avoiding getting stuck in mirrors of their memories. It’s where she reunites with Dawn and Janet, who had previously crossed over, and finds Simon and Wally. It’s also the liminal space where we leave Wally, Janet, Dawn, and Maddie’s dad behind after Maddie and Simon return to the real world. “There’s something, another plane of existence, and it may not be what you expected, and it may be purgatory. It might be a waiting room. We don’t know what this is, but we do know it’s not what we’ve seen,” showrunner Oliver Goldstick told Us, speaking about season 4 hopes. Over at Split River High, the seal that has kept the ghosts trapped on the school’s premises has vanished after Van Heidt tried to burn the school down, meaning they are now able to roam Split River freely, which should really spice things up for season 4, especially if we are going to be chasing after Van Heidt. “What I find genuinely interesting is being stuck somewhere for so long and then being released into the world—only to realize how hard it is to exist in that huge space again,” Megan Trinrud told Variety. “The world has changed. Split River as a school is a very tight little environment. What’s out there is very different, and I think it will be a real shock. Also, there’s something so real about imagining: if I could only talk to that person, I’d say everything. And then you’re presented with the opportunity, and suddenly it’s the last thing you want to do.” Oliver Goldstick added, “They could be interacting with people they haven’t seen in 40 or 50 years. Charley alludes to a brother. We talked about Wally’s sister—an adult woman in her 50s, selling off his things. Those ideas didn’t make it into this season, but they may go into the next.” Ah, and there's also Mr. Martin disappearing completely after redeeming himself. So, where has he gone? What is Van Heidt planning to do? Will Wally and Maddie reunite again, or is he stuck forever? What are the ghosts going to do now that they are free to wander, and who could they meet? All in all, lots of questions to be answered! ↑BACK TO TOP LIST No casting announcements have been made as of yet for School Spirits season 4, but we can expect the main cast to reprise their roles. The show's main cast includes Peyton List as Maddie Nears, Kristian Ventura as Simon Elroy, Spencer MacPherson as Xavier Baxter, Kiara Pichardo as Nicole Herrera, Sarah Yarkin as Rhonda, Nick Pugliese as Charley, Rainbow Wedell as Claire Zomer, Josh Zuckerman as Mr. Martin, Milo Manheim as Wally Clark, Ci Hang Ma as Quinn, Miles Elliot as Yuri, and Maria Dizzia as Sandra Nears.
