A shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, has left multiple people dead, including a student and a teacher. Two students are in critical condition. The suspected shooter is also dead.
Abundant Life Christian school, a K-12 school serving about 390 students, planned to close for Christmas vacation after this week. Just hours before the shooting, students from kindergarten to high school were on the school's 28-acre campus for the last week of classes before vacation. They had a week of festivities planned, including a holiday concert and an Ugly Christmas Sweater Day.
The suspected shooter entered the school with the other students at the beginning of the day and pulled out a handgun, opening fire on their peers. The shooting was confined to one space, a classroom in a study hall of mixed grades. At 10:57 a.m., a second-grade student called 911 to report the shooting. Police confirmed two students are in critical condition with life-threatening injuries after being taken to local hospitals. A student and a teacher were killed, and other people were injured. The suspected shooter is also dead. This attack is at least the 83rd school shooting of 2024, surpassing 2023 for the most school shootings in a single year since CNN began tracking such shootings in 2008
