A school bus driver and 23 students on their way to school Monday in Paramus were unhurt when their bus collided with an SUV that failed to stop for a red light, according to police.
The crash occurred about 8:44 a.m. at Highland and Ridgewood avenues, according to Paramus police Chief Kenneth R. Ehrenberg. Ehrenberg said a 27-year-old man from Dumont driving an SUV west on Ridgewood Avenue failed to stop for a red light and struck a bus Paramus public schools bus. The bus driver, a 45-year-old woman from Lodi, and the 23 children she was transporting to Parkway Elementary School on East Ridgewood Avenue, were unhurt, the chief said.“The school bus was escorted to Parkway Elementary School by the Paramus police, where it was met by staff and the school nurse,” Ehrenberg said in an email.
The SUV driver was ticketed for failing to stop for a red light, careless driving and reckless driving, Ehrenberg said.
