Wet weather doesn't dampen fans' spirit in 2023 season opener at Petco Park against the Colorado Rockies, who quiet the crowd with hitting exploits
Yellow rally towels printed with “Let’s Go Padres” were handed to fans as they entered Petco Park for Thursday evening’s season opener against Colorado.
The Padres originally anticipated as many as 42,000 fans and there were some in the ticket office who thought a sellout was a possibility. The franchise’s single-game attendance record at the time was 44,504, set May 25 the previous season against Cincinnati. “I’m humbled by any little bit of that,” Seidler said at the time. “It can’t match the appreciation I have for the fans.”
Asked who he thinks the Padres would meet in the World Series, Dylan said, “It doesn’t matter because they’re going to win.”The Padres concluded the 2022 season on October 23. There were 157 days between then and opening day for the 2023 season. And yet there were 150 people in line to enter the Padres Team Store an hour before first pitch. Both claimed to be big fans, though Cortez was the only one wearing a Padres jersey.
