) - A significant shift toward a more active weather pattern is underway, bringing multiple chances for rain and storms from Wednesday through Monday. The system could deliver 3 to 5 inches of rainfall — a major boost to the region’s ongoing drought.
Wednesday starts mild with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 60s. Scattered showers will develop mid-morning and continue through the afternoon with a 30% chance of rain. Temperatures will warm into the mid 80s throughout the day. The real concern arrives very late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, when a few strong storms are possible.
These storms will weaken as they move into the area, but we are monitoring the situation closely. Thursday brings the highest rain chance of the week at 80% — meaning you should plan for wet weather. This is when the strongest storms are most likely to impact the area as a boundary pushes through early morning. While a larger severe storm threat exists north and west of the region, the overall severe threat for our area remains marginal.
However, a few strong to severe thunderstorms are possible. The good news? This rain is desperately needed. The area’s rainfall deficit sits at approximately 10 inches for the year, and Thursday’s storms could make a significant dent in that number.
Rain chances remain elevated at 70% on Friday, with the best opportunity for storms arriving midday and afternoon. Some rain could even affect your Friday night plans, so keep an eye on updates. Saturday and Sunday each carry a 50% chance of scattered showers and storms along a stalled front. Monday brings one more chance of scattered showers and storms before conditions clear out by Tuesday of next week.
When this entire weather system wraps up Monday, the region could see 3 to 5 inches of rainfall — a meaningful step toward closing that 10-inch rainfall deficit. This active pattern will continue to provide opportunities to work on the drought situation throughout the week.
