SAN ANTONIO - Another hot sunny afternoon is in progress but we'll be on the lookout for scattered storms later this evening and some could be strong to severe moving across. At this time, the Storm Prediction Center has the area in a level 2 out of 5 "slight" risk of severe storms. This afternoon, a big outflow boundary has moved through bringing a brief period of gusty winds 30 - 45mph and a temperature drop from the mid 90s to 80s.

The area of interest now through early this evening is in West Texas to mountains of northern Mexico where storms are developing. They'll begin to move east and the question that remains, will they stay as separate clusters or organize into a larger complex. Clusters of storms means some miss out on bigger rain while others see possible severe weather and heavy rain. A complex of storms would hit most areas with good rain along with some risk of severe weather.

In fact, the HRRR computer model while waffling around from run to run, does show some potential to miss severe weather in and around San Antonio. Our in-house GRAF computer model definitely brings strong winds across the area including San Antonio. Here's the breakdown on timing, our western tier counties are in the earlier 4pm - 8pm window including the western half of our Hill Country. In and around Bexar County and the I-35 corridor, 9pm to 1am is main window to watch for possible storms. Further east , after midnight through 4am as storms are weakening

At this time, the only county under a watch is Val Verde County but we will likely see a Severe T-Storm Watch issued for much of the area at some point.
