Hooker Scarra Ntubuni led a Western Province XV packed with youth and experience to a huge win against the Zimbabwe Goshawks in Harare on Friday.
The one-Test Springbok captained the WP outfit in the relationship-building friendly at the Harare Sports Club, as head coach John Dobson selected a matchday 23 packed with Vodacom URC and Currie Cup campaigners.
Ntubeni started alongside up-and-coming props Leon Lyons and Corne Weilbach, with Adre Smith and Connor Evans in the second row, and the tight five helped lay the platform for a 35-7 half-time lead. The versatile Ben-Jason Dixon, with hookers Andre-Hugo Venter and Chad Solomon, made up the loose trio, while halfbacks Godlen Masimla and Jurie Matthee called the shots for speedsters Cornel Smit, Mnombo Zwelendaba and Luke Burger.
Dobson’s starting combinations, and the impact off the bench from the likes of Ali Vermaak and Jean-Luc du Plessis, paid off as Province cruised to a 10-try 66-21 victory. A great night out at the Harare Sports Club where DHL WP XV ran in 10 tries. Thanks to our hosts the Zimbabwe Goshawks and all the locals who came out to support.
