Written and directed by Luc Besson, the 2014 sci-fi thriller stars Scarlett Johansson as the titular woman who is kidnapped, turned into a drug mule, and surgically implanted with a package containing a powerful chemical that leaks into her bloodstream, giving her superhuman abilities, turning the tables on her captors. Now, after its April 1 release, Lucy will leave Netflix at the end of this month, on July 31.
Released four months ago, the movie has been a massive hit on the streaming service, instantly ranking in its Top 10 movies in the United States and remaining there for multiple weeks. Other than Scarlett Johansson in the lead role, Lucy's cast also includes Morgan Freeman, Choi Min-sik, Amr Waked, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Pilou Asbæk, Lio Tipton, and Nicolas Phongpheth. At the time of its release, Lucy received mostly positive but polarized reviews.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 67% score from critics and a 47% audience score, and its"Critics Consensus" calls it"enthusiastic and silly" and reads,"Lucy powers through the movie's logic gaps with cheesy thrills plus Scarlett Johansson's charm -- and mostly succeeds at it.
