Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A Scarlet Witch return theory could finally complete Marvel's mutant retcon with Wanda Maximoff's first MCU appearance back in 2014. Having been introduced in the post-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier along with Pietro Maximoff's Quicksilver, Wanda and her twin brother's on-screen origins were drastically altered compared to their backstories in the original comics.
Furthermore, the MCU doubled down on this idea with the reveal in WandaVision that the Mind Stone simply activated Wanda's magical potential which would have otherwise "died on the vine". As such, her ability to wield chaos magic so freely in the first place could be attributed to the activation of her X-gene. It would certainly be a better explanation for why Quicksilver's powers were so different from Wanda's despite coming from the same source.
As it stands, the Scarlet Witch's status is currently unknown after she destroyed Mount Wundagore and every copy of the Darkhold in the multiverse, an act that seemingly saw her sacrificing herself to make up for all she'd done in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness while corrupted by the evil book of magic. However, there are several theories that Wanda will return to the MCU in some shape or form.
