David McCormick, a Republican candidate for Senate in Pennsylvania, will campaign this week with Sean Parnell, a former candidate in the same race who suspended his bid amid domestic violence allegations.
Parnell ended his bid for the U.S. Senate in November, shortly after a judge granted sole legal custody of his three children to his estranged wife after she accused him of domestic abuse. Parnell denied the claims. Shortly after exiting the race, Parnell endorsed McCormick.Former President Donald Trump endorsed Parnell in the race, and his departure left a much different contest among Republican candidates trying to replace retiring Sen. Pat Toomey.
McCormick entered the race after Parnell’s exit and has sought to highlight his business career and military service over his longtime Connecticut address. Campaigning with Parnell, a Trump ally, is likely a bid for the former president’s endorsement. In court testimony last year, Parnell’s estranged wife, Laurie Snell, accused him of pinning her down and choking her, as well as striking one of the couple’s children. She also alleged he once left her on the side of a highway and told her to get an abortion while she was pregnant. In his own testimony, Parnell denied those allegations.
