Prubechu is among a bevy of San Francisco restaurants that have been bombarded with negative reviews on Google. The reviews are part of a scam demanding money from the restaurant.Because he didn’t take the email seriously at first, Camacho didn’t check to see whether Prubechu had received low reviews, but he soon discovered that the restaurant had gained about six new one-star ratings following the suspicious email. That count has since added at least two new posts as of Friday morning.
“The reviews are costing us time and energy,” Camacho said. “It just puts all the inconvenience upon small business owners like us. We have a million things going on already. If it were just six reviews, I can deal with that ... but this stands to be a long-term and ongoing problem.” Camacho said that he has flagged every single post and reached out to Google but hasn’t received a response yet. A Google Maps spokesperson told SFGATE that they are aware of the situation and “have already begun removing cases of policy-violating content.”
“Our policies clearly state reviews must be based on real experiences, and when we find policy violations, we take swift action ranging from content removal to account suspension and even litigation,” the Google spokesperson said., any person can leave a review to a business on Google without providing a lick of context about their actual dining experience. When SFGATE asked Google about blank reviews, the tech giant did not comment.
