MAKABAYAN bloc lawmakers joined other personalities in filing a petition asking the Supreme Court to void the certification as urgent of the Maharlika fund bill and its approval by the House of Representatives.

The petition was filed on Monday by Bayan Muna Chairman Neri Colmenares, former Bayan Muna representative Carlos Zarate, ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro, Gabriela Womens' Party Rep. Arlene Brosas, and Kabataan Rep. Raoul Manuel.The petitioners sought to nullify President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s certification of House Bill 6608 as urgent. They also sought to nullify the House's approval of the bill on third reading 'on the basis of such' certification.

VI states that no bill shall become law 'unless it has passed three readings on separate days, and printed copies thereof in its final form have been distributed to its Members three days before its passage, except when the President certifies to the necessity of its immediate enactment to meet a public calamity or emergency.'The petitioners argued that the certification of the bill as urgent was 'not in compliance with Art. VI, Sec.
