The SAWS board of trustees has approved a $94,000 bonus for Puente.The San Antonio Water System’s board of trustees has signed off on a $94,000 bonus for SAWS president and CEO Robert Puente.
Puente will have to remain in his current job for another two years to receive the bonus, as part of a deferred compensation plan the board approved in 2021. Puente’s annual salary is $516,381. Puente has been SAWS president and CEO since 2008. He previously served in the Texas Legislature. SAWS serves 511,300 water and 457,600 wastewater customers in Bexar County and parts of Atascosa and Medina counties. The city-owned utility expects to bring in revenue of $979 million this year and to spend as much on operations and maintenance, debt payments, system upgrades and a revenue transfer of $33.6 million to the city of San Antonio.
“Our schedule requires us to culminate all our performance activity every March and I reminded everybody of some major achievements in the last year,” said Jelynne LeBlanc Jamison, chairwoman for the SAWS board.SAWS President and CEO Robert Puente speaks during a joint CPS and SAWS board meeting Wednesday afternoon at CPS headquarters.
