Yes, you, at home. During Summer Game Fest, hosted by Geoff Keighley at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Billy the Puppet wheeled out on stage to deliver some exciting news about the future of Saw. The long-running horror franchise is returning with a new video game, titled Saw: Genesis, that'll bring the bloody traps and harrowing choices viewers are familiar with to a 3-vs-1 asymmetrical multiplayer format where one person gets to control the match like Jigsaw.
However, in a special twist, this game will go back to the very origins of the spiral. Saw: Genesis goes back 100 years before the events of James Wan and Leigh Whannell's diabolical films, taking place in the direct aftermath of World War I and following a different puppeteer, The Judge.
An official trailer introduced this new killer, whom Jigsaw sees as less of a monster and more of a"prophet" in how he originated the idea of locking his victims into a twisted path of redemption through pain. Much like his successor, and unlike other asymmetrical horror games like Dead by Daylight, he's not much of a threat on his own, but his bevy of traps and perks allow him and painful kill the"Accused" from the shadows.
His tools of the trade look quite familiar to a few of the designs that Tobin Bell's mastermind would one day employ, promising some truly gory multiplayer action. Saw: Genesis has no release date, but there's already a page open on Steam. Players can now wishlist the title and sign up to participate in the closed alpha on PC.
