Savannah Guthrie spoke with Hoda Kotb in her first interview since her mother Nancy went missing
Savannah Guthrie has said the back doors of her mother Nancy Guthrie's home in Arizona were found propped open when family first got there after she was reported missing. In her first interview since Nancy Guthrie disappeared nearly two months ago, the Today anchor recounted the moments after she was first reported missing.
“We thought that she must have had some kind of medical episode in the night, and that somehow the paramedics had come because the back doors were propped open, and that didn’t make any sense,” she told Hoda Kotb. “We thought maybe they came and there was a stretcher, and they took her out the back. But her phone was there and her purse was there and all her things. And it just didn’t make any sense.”Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home outside Tucson, Arizona, on January 31, and was reported missing the following day by her family. Authorities believe she was kidnapped and said drops of her blood were found on the front porch. In February, the FBI released surveillance footage showing a masked individual, who they called a suspect, on her doorstep the night she disappeared. In the weeks since, investigators have not identified a suspect or provided the public with information about any significant breakthroughs in the case.In the interview, Savannah Guthrie recalled how she first learned her mother was missing from her sister, Annie Guthrie. She said: “My sister called me. I said, ‘Is everything OK?’ And she said, ‘No.’ She said, ‘Mom’s missing.’ “And I said, ‘What? What are you talking about?’ She said, ‘She’s gone.’ And she was in a panic. I was in a panic.’” She added that she and her two siblings initially believed their mother must have had a “medical episode” and began calling local hospitals. "I started calling the hospitals, and the police were there and talking to at the same time, and it was just chaos and disbelief,” Savannah Guthrie said. She added that she immediately arranged to travel to Tucson to be with her family and they told Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos that their mother had not wandered off. She said: “I think we were on the phone with the sheriff and trying to really make clear—from the very early moments, Annie and Tommy were saying, ‘This isn’t that case that you are used to where someone wanders off. She can’t wander off.’” She also said that her mother had been living with “tremendous pain” that severely limited her mobility. “On a good day, she could walk down to the mailbox and get the mail, but most days not,” she said. “So there wasn’t a wander off. And the doors were propped open, and there was blood on the front doorstep. And the Ring camera had been yanked off. And so we were saying, ‘This this is not OK. Something is very wrong here.’”, ours is different: The Courageous Center—it's not"both sides," it's sharp, challenging and alive with ideas. We follow facts, not factions.
