After leaving Saturday Night Live back in 2001, one iconic cast member is returning to host the long-running sketch show on Saturday, April 8.
Saturday Night Live is welcoming back one iconic cast member as a host in early April after she previously left the show as a cast member back in 2001. First airing on NBC back in 1975, Saturday Night Live has featured an array of brilliant comedic actors as cast members throughout its time on the air, including the likes of Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, and more. Although many iconic cast members left the show to pursue other projects, they occasionally return as hosts.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Now, per TVLine, it's been announced that beloved cast member Molly Shannon, who was on the show from 1995 to 2001, is returning to host the show on Saturday, April 8. Shannon, who has hosted once before, will be joined by the Jonas Brothers as the show's musical guest. The same article also reveals that Quinta Brunson will host this coming Saturday, April 1, and that Ana de Armas will host for the first time on April 15.
What Molly Shannon Has Done Since Leaving SNL Shannon is still widely known for playing hilarious characters like Mary Katherine Gallagher, dog-lover Miss Colleen, and Sally O'Malley on SNL, but she has since gone on to enjoy a successful career in movies and TV since leaving the sketch show.
After appearing in Marie Antoinette in 2006, Shannon would also reunite with Fey, a fellow SNL alum, for a guest appearance on 30 Rock in 2007. After guest-starring on numerous shows throughout the mid-2000s, Shannon would reprise her role as Gail for Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, a 2015 TV miniseries. More recently, of course, Shannon would also appear in roles in hit projects like Promising Young Woman, Will & Grace, and HBO's acclaimed The White Lotus.
Shannon's latest role is opposite Florence Pugh in Zach Braff's A Good Person. Shannon plays Diane in the film, with Morgan Freeman, Celeste O'Connor, and Zoe Lister-Jones rounding out the rest of the cast. It remains to be seen what Shannon has in store for audiences when she returns to Saturday Night Live next week, but it will surely be exciting to watch a veteran back on her home turf for new laughs.
