New OnDemand program meant to connect communities that don\u0027t yet have fixed bus routes.
People in Brighton, Rosewood, Blairmore and the northern portion of Kensington will be able to use the new OnDemand service to request a bus from Monday to Friday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. starting Tuesday.
People using the service will be taken from a designated stop to the nearest transit hub, where they can connect with the regular bus system. The city previously tried an on-demand system connecting every bus stop in the city. Information posted to the city website states this model was “not sustainable with a limited number of buses and citywide service.”
While the new model will offer fewer available stops, it is being billed as a way to better serve people living in the target communities, which are still too new to have regular bus service. . OnDemand can be used in its own smartphone app and also integrated into the existing Transit app riders can already use to plan and pay for trips and to track when their bus is expected to arrive. The service will also be available through Saskatoon Transit’sPeople using OnDemand will be able to book a ride on the next available bus, or book a trip up to two weeks in advance. Options will also be available to reserve space for bicycles and wheelchairs.
