Members of Saskatoon city council expressed diverse opinions about letting people vote on a proposed new downtown arena. yxe yxecc
Coun. Troy Davies
Council hasn’t decided on whether this project will move forward yet as we haven’t seen the complete funding plan. That being said, the project is NOT a go or no-go question. The real question is build new or renovate; doing nothing is not an option for either facility to meet future standards for arenas and convention centres in the next 10 years.
I want Saskatoon to be more efficient, less expensive and more sustainable. Driving amenities and public realm improvements to the downtown just makes sense.. I sent them each the instructions from the City Clerk.carries some risks — namely, losing opportunities to secure support from other orders of government. It’s also not clear to me what a possiblequestion would be, and what it would achieve at this stage in the process.
As far as holding a referendum, it isn’t so much how I feel as an elected official, but rather what the majority of citizens in my ward and the city as a whole feel. As I said above, I am hearing strongly that folks want a referendum.
