The Saskatchewan Polytechnic team won the Family Food Challenge at the Canadian Culinary Federation’s Young Chef Culinary Challenge in Niagara Falls. From left: Mary Bloomfield, Katelin Engele, Makenna Rai, Shyanne Magnus, Todd Clark, Chelsea Marud , Everette Nelson and Anthony McCarthy.Having started cooking at a young age at her grandmother’s side, Rai found a passion for the art early., she learned about a provincial cooking competition and signed up immediately.

With the help of her mentors executive chef Anthony McCarthy and executive sous chef Justin O’Reilly at where she also works, Rai prepared as much as she could for the competitions in between work and school.Article contentof her own, where she wants to explore molecular gastronomy, which she said involves making gels and extracting elements from foods to make something entirely different from them.
