Saskatoon\u0027s Colton Flasch defeated the Highland Curling Club\u0027s Matt Dunstone 9\u002D5 in a Friday morning tie\u002Dbreaker at the Brier in Lethbridge.
Two Saskatchewan-based teams met in a tie-breaker, in which Saskatoon’s Colton Flasch foursome defeated the Highland Curling Club’s Matt Dunstone team 9-5 in nine ends.
Dunstone, third Braeden Moskowy, second Kirk Muyres and lead Dustin Kidby were eliminated. The Dunstone team, competing in the 2022 Canadian men’s curling championship as a wild-card entry, had finished third in each of the previous two years. Flasch, Regina-born third Catlin Schneider, second Kevin Marsh and lead Daniel Marsh then defeated Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs 10-3 in seven ends in a 2-versus-3 playoff game Friday afternoon in Lethbridge. The one-sided victory was a springboard into a Friday night playoff game against Alberta’s Kevin Koe.
Flasch had forced the tie-breaker by defeating Dunstone 9-8 in an extra end on Thursday, when round-robin play concluded. Dunstone won his first six matches before losing three in a row, including the tie-breaker. Flasch carried a six-game winning streak into Friday night.The semi-final is Sunday at 11 a.m. The final will follow at 6 p.m.The news seems to be flying at us faster all the time.
