Beck noted that a $30 increase per month amounts to less than a dollar per day for SIS and SAID clients.
“Thirty dollars after eight years, and particularly after this most recent inflationary period, certainly doesn’t cut it. It’s a very small step, and much more needs to be done on that front … It’s also worth noting that over the course of eight years that we’ve gone without a SAID benefit increase, there have also been cuts to SAID … beneficiaries for both rental supports and special needs.
The budget also allocates $7.7 million for two pilot projects providing supportive housing and wrap-around services for. This is expected to help keep approximately 150 shelter beds open year-round in the two cities.
