Bids in the Regina and Saskatoon areas hovered around the $1.5 million mark, according to Dan Heslip, the chief administrative officer with McDougall Auctioneers, which hosted the public auction.Article contentHeslip said he guessed the permits would go for lots of money, but he didn’t expect the one in La Ronge to be sold at such a high price.

“We do a lot of appraisals and estimating for people and you base that on previous sales,” he explained. “But I didn’t have anything to go off in Regina and only one in Saskatoon, so in that case it was a guess of mine that those would go over $1 million. But that one that went over $3 million in La Ronge, I didn’t even fathom that.”According to a McDougall webpage of one of the bids, “names of the winning bidders will be made public within five business days of the closing of the auction.

A government spokesperson, however, said in an email that “applicant names for liquor permits are not considered public until a permit is issued,” noting that third-party commercial information is considered private. The spokesperson later clarified that the statement on the McDougall webpage, disclosing the winning bidders within five days, was done in error and the winners would not be publicly disclosed. The now closed SLGA Dewdney Liquor Store sits empty on Monday, February 6, 2023 in Regina.
