KUCHING: A grand celebration will be held for Sarawak's 60th anniversary of independence within Malaysia this year as the state looks back on how far it has come, says Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The state Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said the budget allocated for the celebrations, which began on May 28 and ends on Aug 19, was a secondary consideration."We have managed to build up a united Sarawak and there is no animosity among our multi-ethnic society.
He also added that all expenditure by the state government was audited and subject to financial requirements. "Sixty contingents with 3,900 participants from various government agencies, institutions of higher learning and non-governmental organisations will take part," he said.
