Sarawak civil servants to get year-end bonus instead of special Raya payment, says Abang Jo

KUCHING: Sarawak will continue to give a year-end bonus to civil servants rather than a special payment for Hari Raya, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Premier said the practice of giving a bonus at the end of the year was fairer and more practical."I feel we must be fair to all festivals. If we have extra revenue, let us give the bonus at the end of the year. This way we will be fair to all communities," he said after handing over compensation to landowners for a mini isthmus project in Gedong, about 85km from here, on Wednesday .

Abang Johari was responding to a question on whether or not the state government would give a Raya bonus to civil servants. This comes after the Federal Government announced that the payment of the 2023 Aidilfitri special financial assistance to civil servants and government pensioners would be brought forward from Monday to this Friday .

Civil servants who are still serving as of Monday will receive RM700 while pensioners will get RM350. Abang Johari also said the state's year-end bonus would help parents buy necessities for their children for the coming school year.Article type: free
