) - Two Saraland Elementary students are recalling the scary moments when their bus was involved in a two-vehicle crash at Celeste and Radcliff roads. Kacey Reid, a fourth grader, and his brother Taylor Reid, a fifth grader, said their bus was headed down Celeste Road when they saw a white car.
Then they felt a bump — and within seconds, the bus was off the roadway. “And I just see the powerline break. It just falls down, and then like electricity. It was like green, blue, and purple,” Kacey said. Both vehicles ended up in a ditch, with power lines hanging down after the bus hit a pole — causing the windshield to shatter and the front of the bus to be nearly ripped off. The Reid brothers said everyone moved quickly to exit through the back of the bus and get to safety. That’s when Taylor said he realized something was wrong.Taylor said his head hit a metal part of the seat, causing a gash that sent him to the hospital, where he got stitches and was put in a neck brace. The crash caused more than 400 people in the area to be without power for hours, and a crew was still working on some damaged power lines earlier in the day. With a goal of 200 signatures, the online petition has already received over 150. One of those signatures is from Sandy Akers, who said she has lived in Saraland for more than 20 years and travels these roads regularly. Akers said she hopes something will be done soon to make the intersection safer. “When I travel Radcliff and come down to Celeste heading into Saraland, I have to pull out so far just to see anyone coming north toward Citronelle. I’m hopeful for a traffic light. I know a lot of people don’t like traffic lights, but when you have an intersection where you need help turning left or right without the chance of getting hit, I think a traffic light is in order,” Akers said.“We’re in complete agreement with the concerns at the intersection. As a city, we will work with the county to come to a resolution.” The Reids said the school excused absences yesterday for students who were on the bus. While they said they’re still a little shaken up, they rode a new bus today, trusting everything will be okay.Pensacola police officer arrested, accused of not disclosing HIV status to sex partnerUnderage spring breakers evicted from Miramar rental after complaintsMeta Shutting Down VR Version of Horizon Worlds as It Shifts Focus to AITwo Saraland Elementary students are recalling the scary moments when their bus was involved in a two-vehicle crash at Celeste and Radcliff roads.
