Saraland junior Jamison Roberts named Oklahoma, Duke, Baylor and Northwestern as four of his top colleges at this point.
Updated: Jan. 28, 2026, 8:01 a.m.The Super All-State Team during the 2026 Mr. Football banquet in Montgomery, Ala., Jan. 20, 2026. It’s been a busy week for Saraland quarterback Jamison Roberts. The junior was in Montgomery last Tuesday for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Year Banquet.
Later in the week, he chatted with numerous college coaches at his school including Auburn head coach Alex Golesh and offensive coordinator Joel Gordon, Northwestern QB coach Jerry Neuheisel, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and Florida head coach Jon Sumrall and QB coach Joe Craddock. This week, Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables and several more Sooner assistants made the trip to Saraland. Also, Roberts added an Ole Miss offer. “I’m planning on making a decision in the next couple of months,” Roberts said in Montgomery. “I’m waiting for the open period to see who is the most interested in me and where I’m at with all of these schools. I want to make my decision before summer so I can really focus on my senior year.” Roberts was ranked No. 30 in AL.com’s last Best in Bama, a ranking of the top high school football prospects in the state regardless of classification. He likely will be in the Top 10 with the new rankings come out this summer without the Class of 2026 included.Roberts named Oklahoma, Duke, Baylor and Northwestern as four of the teams he was most intrigued with early last week. Interestingly, his favorite target in 2025, wide receiver DeShawn Spencer,. Roberts said Tuesday he hadn’t been in contact with the Tigers much, but that obviously changed last week. In his first full year as Saraland’s starting quarterback, Roberts was one of three finalists for the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 6A Back of the Year Award and, which recognizes the top players in the state regardless of position. “I think we had a really good year,” he said. “We came together as a team when it mattered the most in the playoffs, and that is how we were able to make our big run. Coming into the year, people had questions about my ability and my ability to lead a team. I think I showed that well this year. This was the first team that I felt like was a family. It was a team that just loved each other, loved playing with each other. I felt like we played that way as well.” Roberts led Saraland to 13 straight wins to open the season before the Spartans lost to Clay-Chalkville in the Class 6A state title game. He was named AL.com’s Coastal Alabama Offensive MVP after passing for 3,370 yards and 37 touchdowns and rushing for 641 yards and 21 touchdowns. “I think the biggest thing I learned this year is that every season is going to throw you some curveballs or challenges and you just have to find a way to overcome those and come out on top,” he said. Roberts said in the off-season, in addition to locking down a college commitment, he also wants to work on becoming a better leader. “Next year, I know I’m going to have a lot of young guys around me,” he said. “That’s going to force me to lead in the right ways all the time.”
