I thought I would want to debate the merits of being a Carrie or a Miranda—or perhaps I’d do my astrological chart and discover I was a! But instead, I was enraptured by the ensemble’s fifth member and shadow government: the heels.
That wardrobe might have been an elaborate fantasy spun in a writers room, but I’ve heard the very real tales of what it was like when high heels once dominated society. Many divas like Carrie did exist out there. My mom was one of them. I curse her for not keeping her rows and rows of pumps she once bought to color-match every outfit. My millennial and Gen X co-workers have attested to wearing heels to grimy college bars and buying their versions of thefor internships in the city.
