SAPS Western Cape disassociates itself from hoax ‘shutdown’ audio

The recording – which was rejected by the City of Cape Town as a hoax – warned residents to find their way home before Thursday afternoon to escape a total shutdown. The city experienced several road closures along the N2 highway near Cape Town during the day as protests turned violent and police and law enforcement agencies flooded volatile areas, arresting at least eight people.
