A San Antonio police officer was arrested and charged with assaulting his wife after a domestic dispute.
A San Antonio Police Department officer was arrested and charged with family assault on Thursday. Ruben Vasquez, 52, a 24-year veteran of the department, was taken into custody by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office for an incident that occurred while he was off duty on Wednesday, February 5th. Deputies responded to an assault call at Vasquez's residence around 9:45 a.m. Thursday in the 8900 block of Highland Gate in far northwest Bexar County.
The victim, identified by BCSO as Vasquez's wife, told deputies that she and her husband were involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation. She stated that Vasquez raised his arm with a fist and approached her, prompting her to push him away to create distance. Vasquez responded by pushing her with both hands, causing her to fall to the floor and sustain some lower back pain, according to deputies' reports. Vasquez was charged with assault with bodily injury against a family member, a misdemeanor. He was subsequently booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. Bexar County deputies will lead the criminal investigation into this case, while the San Antonio Police Department will conduct an administrative investigation.
