Monday was a very emotional day for people in Santaquin as they laid Sgt. Bill Hooser to rest.

Multiple Santaquin businesses paid tribute to Sgt. Bill Hooser on the day of his funeral on May 13, 2024 — including Maracas Mexican Grill. While thousands attended the funeral, not everyone in the community was able to make it."So it's a table set for him just for us to remember that he isn't able to join us today, but this is all about him today,” said Emily Geak , the restaurant's co-owner.“Just a very nice guy. Very welcoming.

“I watched a little bit on Facebook; they had it livestreamed, but it got a little emotional for me, and I was like, I need to be with it today to help everybody here,” Geak said. Her restaurant wanted to make sure they could make the day about Sgt. Hooser by gathering together, sharing delicious food and having meaningful conversations.

“I think it's a good day, because the people who couldn't attend the funeral — or maybe they watched it online — this is also their way to support him and a day to honor him,” Geak said.Geak said it's just what they do in Santaquin. “It's been very sad. Everyone here knew him, and everyone is really sad about what happened, but at the same time, it's beautiful because everyone is coming together," she said. "Everyone is here for the meaning — to talk about him, talk about memories of him, and support his family through this time."
