It would take more than a little Christmas spirit for Santa Claus to come to town.
Physics students at the University of Leicester were inspired by the scene in the 2003 movie “Elf” where Santa relies on a jet engine to power his sleigh.sleigh from flying.
It was assumed that Santa uses a 19th-century British naval sled that weighs about 1400 pounds , modified with wings attached on either side from a Boeing 747. In order to produce enough lift to fly during Santa’s Christmas Eve journey, the sleigh would have to move at about 10 times the speed of sound — 12,300 miles per hour.
