Santa Clara Police Chief Pat Nikolai is calling on the district attorney to investigate the findings of a newly-released civil grand jury report that accuses City Council members of putting the interests of the 49ers above the interests of constituents and potentially breaking city and state ethics laws.
“I believe your office must provide the investigative power we don’t currently have in our City,” Nikolai wrote. “I offer to work with you and provide any police department resources that might be appropriate.” “The Civil Grand Jury’s investigation confirms that the actions and inaction of certain councilmembers are not consistent with the duties owed to the constituents they were elected to serve, causing severe dysfunction in City governance,” the report said. “The Civil Grand Jury found through the course of its investigation that these five members can — and do — vote in a manner that is favorable to the 49ers.
