“You Don’t Have To Drink Tea.” Sandy Is Amused By Danny's Aversion To Tea After Danny and Sandy reconnect at Rydell High, they decide to try a relationship again, and again, their differences are highlighted pretty quickly, as is the interference of their friends. When the two meet for a date at the diner, all of their friends are on hand to hear Sandy tell Danny that her parents want him to come over for tea.
“I Had Some Champagne At My Cousin’s Wedding Once.” Sandy Is Forever A Good-Girl No matter what she does to try to have fun with the Pink Ladies, it seems that they just can’t get beyond Sandy’s “good girl” image. While Jan and Rizzo happily drink from a bottle of cheap alcohol and snack on twinkies, Rizzo teases that Sandy’s probably never had a drink.
Sandy's Grease quote is a perfect reflection of Sandy’s more demure and conservative personality. However, while she usually may be timid and forgiving, she is still able to stand up for herself when she feels like she’s being taken advantage of. This is a great example of the film showing just how strong a character Sandy truly is, despite her passive demeanor. However, if Grease were released today, it's safe to say this subplot would be removed.
Sandy might still be heartbroken about the fact that the boy she loved apparently turned out to be a cad, but she does not allow that to make her seem upset when Danny tries to talk. Her witty and biting responses to Danny are a satisfying sight to watch as the character of Sandy finally begins to show some edge.
Not only does this sequence give more insight into Sandy’s feelings and thought process, but it also includes the powerhouse musical number, “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” which is not only one of Grease's best songs, but also became a successful chart-topping song for Olivia Newton-John.
