Nine families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting have reached a settlement in their case against gun manufacturer Remington
The settlement comes more than seven years after the families filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Remington, the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15-style rifle used in the massacre that left 20 children and six adults dead in Newtown, Connecticut.
"This landmark, historic victory sends a forceful and compelling message to manufacturers and to the insurance and banking industries that support them: This is a high-risk market, it is not profitable, and you will be held accountable," said Nicole Hockley, whose 6-year-old son Dylan was killed in the shooting.Hockley said she had promised, after her son's death, to create change that would prevent mass shootings.
