Sen. Bernie Sanders slammed fellow Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema on Monday as the Senate prepares to debate sweeping election legislation.

On Monday,Manchin and Sinema’s support of the filibuster to “arguments around procedure,” which he claimed allowed segregation to last for decades after the Civil War.

Senate Democratic leadership and President Biden have pushed for the party to alter or eliminate the filibuster in order to pass the election reform measure, and Schumer announced last week that he would force a vote on weakening the 60-vote rule. Senator Joe Manchin announced he would not support changing a rule that would allow bills to be passed with a simple majority.“Make no mistake, the United States Senate will — for the first time this Congress —debate voting rights legislation beginning on Tuesday,” he said on the Senate floor. “Members of this chamber were elected to debate and to vote, particularly on an issue as vital to the beating heart of our democracy as this one. And we will proceed.
